That doesn’t mean it isn’t possible to succeed, but it does mean the chances are better with some help.
At Tower Talent in San Diego, California, we have several ways that we help our clients move forward in the entertainment business, by assisting them to develop their skills in acting, modeling, or in singing and steering them towards the connections and resources they need to firmly plant their foot in the door.
Performance Classes
The performance classes at Tower Talent fall into the categories of acting, modeling, or singing. Even if the goal isn’t to become a full time professional, there are still a lot of benefits to taking performance classes. Performing in front of an audience, or even in front of peers helps develop a stronger awareness and confidence, and a greater sense of comfort within a physical space. There are classes available both online and in person. It is also possible to receive private coaching in order to tailor it more specifically to your strengths.
Acting
Acting is an important skill that can be used off stage and off-camera, as well as while performing. We have both in-person and online classes that focus on different aspects of this skill. For example, we have one class that looks specifically at character development and script analysis, and another that explores TV, film, and commercial acting. These different mediums use different processes, and an actor’s approach will vary depending on how long he has to present a character, and whether they are playing to an audience or a camera. Classes are divided up according to age and typically involve students between 4-45.
Modeling
If you dream of debuting the latest fashions or are just looking to learn how to walk with confidence and your head held high, modeling is a great place to start. Runway modeling doesn’t require lines, and it is a great way to get used to being in front of a camera. Classes are available for kids as young as 3 and go to age 45. If you are older and want the benefit of learning this skill, we would still love to work with you. Many of our older students choose print modeling where they can be included in catalogs or magazines. Our Modeling Classes also focus on wardrobe styling, hair and makeup, and developing a personal brand and sense of self awareness.
Singing
There is a difference between singing along with your music streaming and singing professionally. In order to keep up with the music, and sound your best, it is necessary to learn the basics of reading music, breath control, and pitch control. You’ll learn to recognize your range, and how to get more comfortable singing outside your favorite genre. This will help you prepare for auditions and give you an edge on your competition.
Whether you start with a class or opt for private coaching — or perhaps do some of each is up to you. Our goal is the same as yours, to improve your performance, no matter which areas you choose to explore.
Audition Support
At Tower Talent, we take a vested interest in getting you ready to audition. We offer an industry standard photography service so you can get your headshots or model’s card ready. We can also help you prepare a specific song, monologue, or sides for any role you are up for. The audition isn’t just about the piece you perform, but how you present yourself as a total package. This includes recording self-tapes in a professional manner or having a demo reel at the ready of your past work to include current material to show industry professionals what you are capable of. At Tower Talent, we can help film your demo reel and fulfill any self-tape request you may have.
The auditions we line up for you are backed by the SAG-AFTRA union so you can feel confident you will be treated appropriately during your audition and will be paid fairly should you book a part. We are not a talent agency, however. We advocate for our performers, but we don’t look to take a percentage of their earnings like an agent does. We provide guaranteed interviews and showcases with actual agents that can help manage your performance career for years to come.
Tower Talent has locations in both Long Island and San Diego. We have been running our San Diego school for 12 years but have recently moved from Mission Valley to Mira Mesa. Not only does our school help with performance, but it can increase interview skills, discipline, and help encourage an enthusiastic attitude in whatever you do.
